To support the Plastic Identification Tool, a PIT kit has been compiled. You can request the Pit kit with a workshop. In addition, you can download the various other attachments / overviews.

Use polarizing filter to identify transparent plastics
Use the information from the tables in combination with the polarization filters to distinguish the types of transparent plastic (film or sheet material).

Susceptibility and recommendations for preventive conservation
The ‘Susceptibility’ table provides an overview of the sensitivity of all plastics to various external factors. Green means that the plastic in question has low sensitivity to the factor, yellow indicates normal sensitivity and red indicates high sensitivity.
A distinction is made in the table between rigid plastics and foams because foams are often more sensitive due to their open structure. When specific circumstances apply, they are stated. For all other cases there is the table ‘Recommendations for preventive preservation’ in which the color of the recommendation corresponds to that for sensitivity.
